Celebrating Valluvar

The World Tirukkural Centre, Cherian Nagar, Puduvannai, is conducting a string of events tomorrow, August 22, 9 a.m . onwards at Valluvar Kottam. The release of several books authored by Valluvar scholars and a seminar will dominate the day. Morning schedule includes a souvenir on Abdul Kalam and unveiling of his picture.

Among the books released will be ‘Chellammal Kavidaigal,’ a volume of poems, and Tirukkural Aivukkovai, Part 1, both written by K.P. Chellammal. A veteran teacher, who has been engaged in the propagation of Tirukkural for the past several decades with a missionary zeal, Chellamma is founder-director of Ulaga Tirukkural Kalaisangam.

Through music, dance and skits, Chellammal, conveys the message of the couplets in schools, public functions, etc. Age has not stopped this senior researcher from travelling within the country and abroad to spread Tirukkural for which she dons the role of Avvaiyar and Vasuki. A statue of Tiruvalluvar adorns her house in Kottur.

Other authors whose books will be released are Dr. T. Pazhanivelu, S. Padmanabhan, C. Kuppan, Sundara Ellappan, Theni V. Arangarasan and Santhi Mohanarasu. Dr. Kasturi Raja will be conferred a title and felicitated at 4 p.m.
