Ceiling collapses in Puzhal, family of 4 injured

A family of four, including two children were injured, after a section of the ceiling of a room in their flat came crashing down while they were asleep in the early hours of Tuesday.

Sources with the Puzhal police said the accident took place at the first-floor flat owned by Balakrishnan at Hari Om apartment complex, built over a year ago, in Janakiraman Nagar, Puthagaram in Puzhal.

Concrete pieces from the ceiling fell on Balakrishnan, his wife Kalaichelvi and their children, Prithiviraj and Oviya, around 3.30 a.m. The sound and the ensuing chaos woke the neighbours, and the family was rushed to a private hospital in Anna Nagar. All four are out of danger.

The apartment was constructed a year ago. Suspecting that poor quality construction material could have caused the accident, the Puzhal police have registered a case.
