CBI probe into appointment of Pondicherry University V-C sought

The Pondicherry University Teachers’ Association has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the CBI to register a case against the Vice-Chancellor of the Pondicherry University, Chandra Krishnamurthy, and investigate her appointment.

In the petition, the association represented by its general secretary, N. Dastagiri Reddy, submitted that Ms. Chandra Krishnamurthy was appointed Vice-Chancellor on February 1, 2013.

The petitioner alleged that she did not possess the necessary qualification. She misrepresented her qualification in the curriculum vitae. She was not qualified to hold the post as she lacked work experience as a professor. There were several procedural illegalities in her appointment.

The petitioner alleged that the appointment was a “direct outcome of fraud and cheating.” A complaint was filed with the CBI, New Delhi, on February 4, 2015.

The petitioner prayed the court for a direction to the Central agency to register a case based on the complaint and investigate it.

When the matter came up before Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, counsel stated that a Writ of Quo Warranto against the Vice-Chancellor was already pending before the court. Hence, the Judge directed the Registry to post the present petition along with the other one after getting the Chief Justice’s approval.
