With their limbs bound, the camels are thrown out of a lorry at midnight. Their loud groans and drooping heads indicate the suffering that 15 camels had endured during a long journey atop a truck, as they lay huddled together.
This was the account volunteers of Blue Cross gave after they intercepted the lorry around midnight, and saw two camels being tossed out of the vehicle and later called the police.
Earlier, on Saturday night, Dawn Williams, General Manager of Blue Cross of India, was informed that camels were being unloaded from a lorry for slaughter in Saidapet for Bakrid. According to sources, the lorry carrying the camels stopped at Nethaji Nagar near Tondiarpet, where six camels were dropped. Later, the lorry went to Flower Bazaar and from there moved on to Saidapet. “The driver of the lorry Narasimhan, told us that the lorry carrying camels began its journey from Rajasthan five days ago,” he added.

A case was registered against the lorry driver under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 429 of Indian Penal Code (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc).
