Boy asphyxiated

May 30, 2011 01:20 am | Updated 01:20 am IST - CHENNAI:

A boy died after he allegedly got locked inside his father's mini-van in Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar on Sunday. Police suspect asphyxiation caused the death.

Pulianthope police sources indentified the victim, Asmatullah, a three-and-a-half-year old of Pallavaram. The incident occurred around 1.30 p.m. when the boy came to his uncle's house to attend a funeral. “Asmatullah, his parents, elder brother, elder sister and grandmother had arrived in their Maruti Versa and stepped inside. The boy, who was unwell on Sunday, came back to the car during the ceremony and sat inside the vehicle which his father Naimatullah hadn't locked,” said an investigating officer.

Around 2.45 p.m., Naimatullah and others, while searched for Asmatullah, found him lying unconscious inside the vehicle. They rushed him to a private hospital nearby from where he was taken to Government Stanley Hospital. But doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, the officer added.
