Five days after he went into hiding, Shaji Purushothaman, the main accused in the >Egmore car accident case that claimed a >boy’s life , has protested his innocence in an anticipatory bail plea filed before the Madras High Court.
Mr. Shaji, who is still at large, said he was a victim of a frame-up and that the investigation was ‘biased’ and aimed at hurting his reputation.
He has moved the Sessions Court also for anticipatory bail.

Mr. Shaji is the son of M.P. Purushothaman, chairman of Empee Group of Companies.
Mr. Purushothaman has filed a similar plea in the High Court in response to a notice issued by the police, asking him to be present for an enquiry.
In his anticipatory bail petition, he said he did not travel in the Mercedes car that was involved in the accident and that he was not even named as an accused in the FIR.

In another development, R.M. Kumar, believed to be Mr. Shaji’s driver and arrested in the case, has filed a bail plea in the Principal Sessions Court. Mr. Kumar also said he was falsely implicated in the case. The accident, which resulted in the death of 13-year-old Muniraj, has left his >cousin Subha scarred in mind and body. The 10-year-old girl had a broken skull, which was sewed up in a four-hour-long procedure. Her right hand was broken in four places and her right elbow crushed. She also broke a bone in her left shoulder. She continues to be under intensive care at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
