Commuters entraining at Chennai Central (suburban) terminal towards Perambur, Avadi, Annanur and other terminals on the northern and western lines of Chennai Suburban Railway, have requested the Southern Railway to take steps to illuminate the passageway leading to the terminal on the premises of Chennai Central, near pre-paid auto both.

The narrow passageway teems with commuters, which include motorists entering the premium parking slots opposite the suburban terminal and exiting through the parking area through the area near Ripon Building and through VOC Street, Park Town.

There are two high-mast lamp posts near the terminal building. Many of the bulbs in these high-mast lamps are not functioning.

After sunset, commuters have to watch their steps.

“In a hurry to take their train, they sneak in through the narrow passageway between the vehicles, facing the risk of being knocked down by vehicles entering and exiting the parking lot opposite the the terminal area, due to lack of illumination,” says R. Rajesh, a commuter and a resident of Avadi.

The stretch is used as a reliving spot.
