The Association of University Teachers has demanded elections to the Pachaiyappa’s Trust.

The AUT has listed several complaints against the interim administrator, who, it claims, has overstepped his brief, and is interfering in the functioning of the college committees. The trust runs six colleges.

The interim administrator has been charged with changing five secretaries in a year. “The Directorate of College Education has not approved the appointment of the last two secretaries but the present secretary has signed salary bills of the employees. The Regional Joint Director and the DCE have been silent,” said AUT president N. Pasupathy.

The AUT alleged irregularities at the Cuddalore-based C.K.N. College for Women. The college has not yet started the admission process when most of the aided colleges have completed admissions. “This college has not yet constituted the council or the admission committee as directed by the DCE. The senior-most lecturer or the SC or ST representatives have not been named yet,” he said. “Usually colleges begin issuing applications a few days prior to the release of Class 12 results. A fortnight after the applications are received, the merit list is posted on the college notice board. Till now not even one student has been admitted to this college,” Mr. Pasupathy said. The AUT has given a petition to Vice-Chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University, to which the college is affiliated. The association has planned a demonstration when the colleges reopen in June.
