Arya’s team completes gruelling cycling course in Sweden

June 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Actors being passionate about a sport is nothing new, but taking part in a gruelling event and excelling in it is unusual. Arya though is now part of a winning team in Sweden. His 11-member cycling team – ‘Ryders, Team Jammy’ successfully completed a gruelling 300-kilometre cycling event in Sweden — Vatternrundan 2015.

The event is very popular and draws people from across the globe. The team is reportedly the only one from India to have completed the 300-km stretch. “More than 30,000 people took part and all 11 of us completed it. Fifty per cent of the stretch is on the hills,” says K.P. Feroze, a software employee and a team member. Essentially a group of friends from school and also those who have known Arya after his entry into filmdom, the team members are elated as it is no mean achievement to complete the gruelling event.

“We finished it in 14 hours. The event is non competitive and all those who finish it get a medal and a certificate. It was the 50{+t}{+h}edition of the event and it makes it even more special,” Mr. Feroze adds.

Preparing for the event was not an easy task as all of them would wake up at 2 a.m. and practise everyday till 7 a.m. on East Coast Road.

The team received plenty of support from TI Cycles in completing the paperwork to take part in the event and also in travelling to Sweden, he says. Arya is the team’s captain.
