Dr. Alwar, retired professor of neurosurgery, Madras Medical College, was the convener of the committee. P. Gunasekaran, Vice Chancellor of Tiruvalluvar University, Vellore and C. Dr. Murukadas is the convenor of the committee instituted for the search panel for Madurai Kamaraj University. The first meeting of the committee constituted on April 8 was held on April 24 and an advertisement was supposed to have appeared on April 26.

However, the advertisement was not released, causing university professors’ bodies to suspect that the search panel was under pressure from persons with vested interest. One of the committee members was nominated by the Senate and another by the Syndicate of the University. However, sources said the advertisement had some typographical errors and the first page of the advertisement did not have the signature of the committee members. The committee is expected to meet later this month, review and revise the advertisement before it is issued.
