Greater Chennai Corporation is creating a park on the bund of Adyar river along Thiru Vi. Kaa. bridge to increase the scenic beauty of the waterway and also protect it.

Earlier, officials of Zone 13 (Adyar) used to lock the gate to prevent miscreants from misusing the bund of the Adyar river. This section had been turned into a dumping ground. However, the lock would go missing within a few days and the space would be misused by miscreants. Now, the civic body zeroed in on having a park as a permanent solution. Amenities proposed for the facility include a tiled walkway, landscaping, children’s play equipment, saplings, a concrete seating arrangement, lights and toilets.

The park will have a steel fencing along the Adyar river.

Work on the park is expected to be completed this year. Construction debris and garbage have been removed from the bund of the river to facilitate the work.

A Corporation official said even after opening of the new park, the existing old dilapidated bridge would remain closed to prevent its misuse.

The existing entrance will be widened to let more visitors in. Security guards will also be deployed.
