A math contest for young minds

The Hindu In School, in association with HeyMath! and Raffles Institution, Singapore is, for the first time in India, planning an online maths contest — the RI Maths Challenge 2013, for middle school students from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The objective of this contest is to increase interest in mathematics and develop problem-solving abilities.

The Hindu In School . Classes 7, 8 and 9 are eligible to participate.

The contest will test students on their problem-solving, decision-making, analytical and critical thinking skills. Major topics that will be covered are geometry, calculation, counting, arithmetic and investigative problems.

There will be an online model test to help students familiarise themselves with the type of questions that will be asked, testing environment and contest format. This will be available for a week.

The qualifying round will be an online test of 60 minutes’ duration. The top 50 students who qualify will have to take a 60-minute written test in Chennai.

The winners will get prizes such as the Apple iPad, Apple iPad Mini, Android tablets and many more.
