The Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Guindy recently conducted its first training programme under the New Entrepreneur-cum-Enterprise Development Scheme for first-generation entrepreneurs.
A total of 46 candidates from Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts are participating in the month-long programme in which training for developing interpersonal skills, personnel management and finance management is being provided. Speaking on the occasion, State minister for rural industries P. Mohan said that Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had released the courseware for the programme last month.
Youth who have availed of the loan are being provided training. Apart from helping them with their business plans, the EDI will also link them with major industrial clients, he said.

Under the programme, beneficiaries will be provided with assistance to avail of term loans from banks or from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation with capital subsidy at 25 per cent of the project cost, not exceeding Rs.25 lakhs, and soft loans with 3 per cent interest subvention.
The loan amount could be a minimum of Rs. 5 lakh and a maximum of Rs. 1 crore. Priority would be given to women entrepreneurs, said a press release. Among those who participated in the event were R. Balakrishnan, director, Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Harmander Singh, industries commissioner and director of industries and commerce as well as K. Dhanavel, secretary, department of MSME.
