Residents of many areas, particularly those in the tail end, who receive water supply from the Triplicane Head Works, may expect equitable distribution with adequate pressure. The improvement works being taken up in the zone is set to be completed this month-end.
Triplicane is one of the five zones, including K.K. Nagar, Kilpauk water works, Southern head works and Anna Poonga (Mint), being improved under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
Areas such as Pudupet, Triplicane, Chepauk, Ice House, Royapettah and Chintadripet would soon benefit from the scheme as pipeline covering a distance of nearly 20 km are being improved.

Officials of the Chennai Metrowater said besides replacing old pipelines in nearly 60 streets, their width is being enlarged in nearly 70 streets to increase their capacity.
The distribution main pipeline from the Triplicane Head Works is being diverted through old MLA hostel on the Omandur Government Estate following construction of the Assembly complex.
The interconnection work is being taken up in about 30 locations, including Deputy Mayor Kabalamurthy Street in Chintadripet, Dams Road, Pycrofts Road in Royapettah and Wallajah Road, Dr.Besant Road and Victoria Hostel Road in Triplicane.

The project has been taken up at a cost of Rs.12.75 crore. Residents may also benefit with the increase in supply hours following the implementation of the project, an official said.
At present, 12 million litres of water a day is being distributed from the Triplicane head works.
The process of installing valves in the distribution mains to ensure equitable water supply has started.
At present, when the water meant for distribution to a particular area is pumped into the pipeline, the localities en route also receive the supply.
With the boundaries of each area marked with the help of valves, all households in the area for which the supply was meant would receive sufficient water.
The project is expected to be completed in February next, an official said.
