The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary, Vaiko, has urged the State and Central governments to ensure the rule of law by making Kerala to implement the Supreme Court judgment on Mullaperiyar dam.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Paramakudi on Wednesday, he said that though the Supreme Court had issued a clear cut order to raise the storage level in Mullaperiyar, Kerala had been following irrational attitude towards implementing the judgment.
It had been adamant in denying the rightful share of water to its neighbour. The Central government, which had to ensure the rule of law, had been a mute spectator in the emerging issue. The DMK, an ally of the UPA government, had not taken sincere steps to implement the court order.

Mr. Vaiko said that it was because of this reason the MDMK with the support of farmer associations and likeminded parties announced the agitation to stop vehicles carrying essential items to Kerala.
While stating that Kerala was not an enemy, he said it should work towards improving the good relation with Tamil Nadu by respecting the order of the Supreme Court.
The MDMK workers and others would participate in an agitation to be held on May 28 at all entry and exit points of Kerala.
