UK healthcare sector ready to offer innovative products, services to India

Updated - November 18, 2016 08:34 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The UK healthcare sector is ready to offer innovative products, services and technologies to India to meet the challenges of global healthcare delivery, said UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Healthcare and Medical Technology mission leader Nermeen Y. Varawalla on Friday.

Leading a nine-member team to New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to address the needs of the Indian market, Dr. Varawalla, Global Value Chain Specialist, Life Sciences and Healthcare India, told The Hindu, “we are not looking at Medical Tourism as we are here to explore and offer our products, services and technologies to larger audience. The clinical trials segment in India is growing and will continue to flourish, but it lacks expertise and experience. We are ready to help to scale up and move up in clinical trials.”

Addressing UKTI-CII seminar on ‘healthcare solutions from the UK,' she said that there was a demand for quality healthcare services by India's urban and affluent population of over 300 million and that could be scaled up to 1 billion.

“Indian firms have opportunities and capabilities in this space like the UK firms. It will be exciting to match the opportunities and come up with products, services and technologies to address the bigger global market. Although price-sensitive, India's marketplace values best in class treatments, innovations and value added goods & services,” she said.
