Two journalist organisations have moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Chennai Commissioner of Police to register an FIR on a complaint against some actors for making “abusive, provocative speeches” against press reporters, and investigate the case.
K. Asudhula, secretary, south zone, Indian Federation of Working Journalists, and V. Anbazhagan, president, Chennai Union of Journalists, said that the News Editor of a Dinamalar, was arrested (since released on bail) for publishing a report on actors.
They said the Thenindia Nadigar Sangam organised a meeting on October 7 to condemn the report. At the meeting, six to seven actors used filthy, abusive and defamatory speeches against press reporters and their family members.

Media reporters called on the Commissioner and lodged a complaint against the threat and the speeches and requested him to register an FIR and take appropriate action against those concerned.
The police, who showed a keen interest in taking action against the News Editor, had not even bothered to call the actors concerned and enquire them, the petitioners said.
The matter came up before Justice R. Regupathi on Tuesday.

He posted it for October 19 to enable the government side to get instructions.
