Beneficiaries: Cash awards being given away during the inauguration of Parvathy Kumaraswamy Memorial Trust.

The Parvathy Kumaraswamy Memorial Trust was started in Anakaputhur in memory of the former councillor of Anakaputhur Town Panchayat. A function was held at Jankai Rajagopal Marriage Hall on July 15. A portrait of Ms. Parvathy Kumaraswamy was unveiled by Mangalam Balasubramanian, environmentalist, in the presence of Bharathi Kumar, former Anakaputhur Municipal Chairman. Vijaya Chamundeeswari, daughter of the late actors Savithri and Gemini Ganesan, formally inaugurated the Trust and also handed over cash awards to meritorious and deserving students studying in schools in Anakaputhur. Gadgets to differently abled people were also given.

Hailing from a modest background of handloom weavers, Ms. Parvathy was elected as a councillor from Ward No. 5 of Anakaputhur, when it was a town panchayat. Her husband V. Kumaraswamy died six years ago and due to ill-health, Ms. Parvathy died in April this year. The Trust was formed by a group of well wishers who wanted to help the deserving and the needy, said a note from A.V. Kumar.
