Trade fair sheds light on government projects

Visitors to the Tourism and Trade Fair at Island Grounds get to learn a lot about the various government agencies and their projects besides availing themselves of the facilities to test water samples and know their blood group.

Besides photographs of the various projects across the State, the pavillion of the Highways Department and Minor Port has a colourful display of many working models of the ongoing schemes, particularly in the city. The model of the renovated subways near the new Secretariat Complex and the busy Anna Salai at the entrance welcomes the visitors.

The nine models of the projects include those of a road overbridge in Vyasarpadi, a high-level bridge across Ennore Creek and a flyover at Thirumangalam junction.

This year, Chennai Metrowater and Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board have a common pavillion.

A miniature model of the Minjur desalination plant forms part of the display by Metrowater.

Visitors also get to test water samples for 21 parameters at a concessional rate of Rs.50. In previous editions of the annual fair, the samples were tested for only 13 parameters. Of the 73 samples received so far this year, reports for 60 samples have been despatched to the customers.

Chennai Corporation's stall has models and photographs of schemes undertaken by each of its department, including health, stormwater drain and education. Testing facility for blood grouping and HIV/AIDS are also available.

A model of the new Secretariat Complex is the attraction at the stall of the Public Works Department. The visitors keenly read the information about the department and also picked up a few pamphlets on the projects.
