If the city residents are dreading harsh summer, they have something soothing to look forward to. The just-begun holiday movie season this year will be refreshingly off-beat.

Growing out of love and action genres, the industry is experimenting with a handful of never-tried-before storylines. Topping the list will be Irumbukottai Murattu Singam , an adventure comedy film.

The full-length cowboy movie, starring Ragavendra Lawrence, will have all the elements of an entertainer, said its director Chimbu Devan.

“We had initially planned to release it on March 26. But since kids would love this cowboy film, we had to wait till the holiday mood sets in. Now it has been slated for release on April 2,” he said. The film will also see a simultaneous release in Telugu.

On the same day, director Lingusamy's Paiya , starring Karthi and Tamanna, will also hit the theatres. After a two-year's wait, the director hopes to get on the success track with this film. “The film is very urban-centric and stylish.

The expectations are high and we also have strong hopes as the release is strategically planned. Summer releases have always a charm and this is my first film to be released during holiday season,” Mr. Lingusamy said.

This Friday will set the tone for the holiday film season with the release of Angadi Theru . Directed by G.Vasanthabalan, the film is expected to create waves among audience for its realistic portrayal of love and societal issues. “We made sure emotions are handled in a subtle and sensible way and there is lot of freshness in the film. We have carefully avoided all clichés,” said the national-award-winning director, who rose to prominence with his earlier film Veyil . Release dates for films are not important as long as the content is good, Mr.Vasanthabalan added.

If all goes well, films of top-slot actors might also be slotted in before the vacation ends. Suriya's ‘Singam' might be released in May, followed by Vijay's Sura. The film, directed by S.P.Rajkumar, will be Vijay's 50th project.

Guru Sishyan , with Sunder C. and Sathyaraj, and Maanja Velu starring Arun Vijay will also be among the holiday releases.

This vacation, kids have a lot more reason to visit theatres. My Friend Ganesha 3 , the third sequel to the popular animation film on mythology, will be released on March 26.
