Stanley subway to be ready by April

Work on two vehicular subways and a flyover, which are expected to help in decongesting traffic, will be completed by April. These projects are being jointly executed by the Chennai Corporation and Southern Railway, Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said here on Monday.

After reviewing the progress of various infrastructure project works in the city, Mr. Stalin said work on the Rs.15.75-crore vehicular subway on Monegar Choultry Road near the Government Stanley Hospital would be completed in two months.

The Rs.34.16-crore vehicular subway in Villivakkam, a long-pending demand of residents, and the Rangarajapuram flyover being constructed at a cost of Rs.23.75 crore would be opened for traffic by April.

The upcoming road overbridge at Vyasarpadi is slated to be completed by September next year.

On the other projects taken up by the civic body, he said while the Cochrane Basin bridge would be ready for use by May, work on the flyover at Mint junction would be finished by this year-end.

Many of the projects such as flyovers in Thirumangalam, Moolakadai, Porur and Vadapalani being executed by the Highways Department would be completed by December next year. The bridge across the Cooum river between Nerkundram and Mogappair would be ready by September this year.

A total of 12 facilities, including flyovers and vehicular subways, are being constructed at a cost of Rs.398 crore to reduce traffic congestion in the city, Mr.Stalin added.

Mayor M. Subramanian, Corporation Commissioner D. Karthikeyan and officials of the Corporation and Highways were present during the inspection.
