AIADMK legislators P. Dhanapal and Pollachi V. Jayaraman are set to be elected unopposed as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 15th State Legislative Assembly on Friday, as their nominations were accepted by the Assembly Secretary.
It may be noted that Mr. Dhanapal and Mr. Jayaraman were also the Speaker and Deputy Speaker in the later part of the 14th State Legislative Assembly. Presently, S. Semmalai is functioning as the pro-tem Speaker of the House.
Their swearing-in will be at 10 a.m. on Friday. Mr. Dhanapal became the first Dalit to occupy the Speaker post when he was sworn-in in 2012.
