A traffic survey at eight locations on Anna Salai, as part of the feasibility study for the two flyovers proposed on the arterial road, was conducted on Wednesday by the Metro wing of the Highways Department.
About 250 volunteers were involved in the ‘origin and destination' survey, which was conducted in association with the Highways Research Station and Anna University. The survey was conducted during rush hour to ascertain the number of vehicles that would use the facilities.
The eight locations included the Wallajah Road, Teynampet and Eldams Road junctions. “The data collected would help us find out how many vehicles use the stretch of the road where the flyovers would be constructed,” an official said.

The report would be submitted to the State government in a fortnight for a final decision on the two projects.
The proposed flyovers would cost around Rs.500 crore. One of them, nearly 1.9 km long, would extend from near the new Assembly/Secretariat Complex to Smith Road, near TVS bus stand, at a cost of Rs.169 crore. The other flyover would be 2.9 km long from Anna Arivalayam to CIT Nagar First Main Road and cost Rs.331 crore, the official added.
