One killed, three hurt in bomb attack

As the car neared Kannimedu, an unidentified gang hurled country-made bombs and fled

One person was killed and three others injured in a bomb attack in Somangalam police station limits on Thursday night.

According to the police, the incident took place around 9 p.m.

D. Sivakumar (assistant director, mines, Kancheepuram district) and three others were travelling in a car towards Pallavaram on Sriperumbudur Manimangalam Road.

As they neared Kannimedu, an unidentified gang hurled country-made bombs on the car and fled.

Mr. Sivakumar, car driver Karthikeyan, and Vasudevan, relative of a village panchayat president in Kundrathur block, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The fourth occupant, Sivalingam, an office assistant in the mines department, escaped with minor injuries. He then took the help of a passing motorist and went to the Somangalam police station to lodge a complaint.

Mr. Karthikeyan succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The Somangalam police have registered a case and are investigating.
