Stating that serious allegations have been made in a writ petition against some persons for distributing money for voting in the coming Assembly elections, the Madras High Court on Wednesday said the petitioner may implead those persons as parties in the petition.
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, passed the order on a writ petition by Vetrinagar M. Sundar of Devaki Ammal Nagar in Jawahar Nagar here alleging that DMK volunteers distributed money on March 24 to members of women self-help groups in Kolathur constituency here.
The flying squad and Tahsildar caught 16 members of the group and recorded their statements. The police arrived and “prevented further enquiry and recording of statements.” They did not take action against the DMK workers.

He lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer; but no action had been taken so far.
The court said it appeared that some serious allegations had been made against some persons named in the representation. But they had not been impleaded as parties in the petition. In their absence the court could not pass any order or direction in this regard. The petitioner may implead all those persons as parties in the writ petition. The Bench posted the matter for further hearing after one week.
