No action if lawyers withdraw boycott, reiterates HC

The full court meeting of the Madras High Court held on Thursday reiterated the assurance made by the Chief Justice S.K. Kaul that pending examination of the newly amended Statutory Rules of the court, no precipitating action will be taken against advocates, but subject to the lawyers/ Bar Associations withdrawing the boycott.

The resolution passed by the full court made it clear that action, as per norms already laid down, would follow if the strikes are not withdrawn.

A committee to be constituted by the Chief Justice will examine the suggestions made by various associations concerning the newly introduced rules, the resolution stated.

Noting that subsequent to the notification dated May 25 on the newly introduced rules, various associations, including the district Bar Associations and Senior Advocates have expressed their reservation.
