In the past few weeks, Aavin milk buyers have been receiving packets with both the old and revised prices printed on them, much to their surprise. “My neighbour gets packets with different rates on them. Sometimes the covers also have rubber stamping on them that get erased and the dates are not clear,” said J. Pichammal, a resident of Nanganallur.
Aavin officials explained that the plastic film for the cover came with old prices and that old stock will be used up in a few days after which new ones will have only the new rates. “We have already placed orders for new film covers. The city consumes around 160 tonnes of plastic film covers every month,” officials explained. The new covers will also have the MRP and consumer card rates.

Similarly, some milk covers have the rates and dates rubber stamped as not all the milk vending heads in the dairies have thermo transfer printing that print the details directly on the covers during packing.
Of the 100-odd vending heads in the four dairies that supply 11.40 lakh litres of milk daily to the city, over 80 have this technology. Work is on to install this printing at all the heads and is expected to be completed in a month’s time. Once this is done, the rubber stamping will not be necessary,” the officials explained.
