The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy has sought the setting up of a National Anti-Cyber Crime Centre on its campus in Hyderabad, NPA Director K. Vijay Kumar said here on Tuesday. “We have requested the Union Home Minister to grant us a National Anti-Cyber Crime Centre to be based at the academy, where senior judicial/police officers and others can interact and learn…we are trying to involve the Department of Information Technology in this,” he told The Hindu .
Hinting at the possibility of an annual exchange programme of joint exercises, in which senior IPS officers could undergo training in France, Germany and the U.K., Mr. Vijay Kumar said the proposal was under the consideration of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
As part of the mid-career training programme at the academy, about 110 senior police officers were undergoing a six-week training conducted by the Indian School of Business in association with Charles Strut University, Australia. “The training is focussed on strategic management and leadership qualities. The officers will also go on a two-week training schedule to Australia.”

IPS probationers would soon visit Haridwar for a practical understanding of crowd management at the Kumbh Mela. “Wherever there is a huge gathering in the country, we are sending them there. The visit to Haridwar is a ten-day capsule course, including river rafting at Rishikesh and rock-climbing at Mussoorie. The Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu is imparting training on jungle warfare while the Grey Hounds of Andhra Pradesh are teaching them other strategic operations.”
Mr. Vijay Kumar, who led the STF in its operation against brigand Veerappan, said he was writing a book. “Apart from the essential points drawn from the Veerappan operation, the book will include other aspects of policing that I have learnt over the years…it will be dedicated to the team involved in the operation.”
