Medico commits suicide

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was upset over the last few days

A final year medical college student committed suicide by jumping in front of a suburban train near the Park station on Tuesday.

According to police sources, M. Siva Ganesan (23) of Rajapalayam, studying in Madras Medical College here, was standing along the railway track and jumped in front of an EMU.

He sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Government General Hospital for post-mortem. Inspector-General of Police (Railways) K.C. Mahali said preliminary investigation had revealed that the victim was upset over the last few days. The Egmore Railway Police have registered a case.

Boy run over

A school student died in a road accident in Perambur on Tuesday. Police said N. Akash (13) of Ramana Nagar, Perambur, studying in Standard VII, was returning home from school on a bicycle when a speeding van ran over him on Ponnappa Mudali Street. The victim suffered head injury and died on the way to the hospital.

The van driver, Manikandan, was taken into custody on charges of rash and negligent driving. The Anna Nagar Traffic Investigation police have registered a case.
