Medical student commits suicide

A medical student and a job aspirant in Chennai allegedly committed suicide in separate cases.

According to Aminjikarai police, T. Abhishek (20), a second-year MBBS student of Sri Ramanchandra University in Porur, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room in his house on 1 Main Road, Shenoy Nagar around 6 a.m. on Sunday. His family members who spotted the body took him to a private hospital on Greams Road where he was pronounced ‘brought dead’ by doctors.

An Aminjikarai police team probed the death and termed it a case of suicide. However, the motive for the suicide is under investigation.

Girl sets herself on fire

In another instance, a 20-year-old girl immolated herself on the terrace of her house on Padi Kuppam Road, Anna Nagar West around 4.30 p.m. on Saturday.

The girl, identified as Supriya by Thirumangalam police, had gone to the terrace after informing her parents that she was going to burn waste paper.

But she doused her body with kerosene and set herself ablaze. She suffered severe burns and her family members rushed her to the Government Kilpauk hospital where she succumbed around 6.30 a.m. on Sunday.

Supriya left behind a note stating that she was resorting to suicide as she was not able to find a job after her graduation last year and was ashamed about being obese, police sources added.
