Karunanidhi declares open annexe on DGP office campus

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday declared open an annexe on the 11.73-acre campus that houses the office of the Director General of Police at Mylapore here. The new building, comprising three blocks, has been constructed at a cost of Rs.24.5 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karunanidhi said he was happy that many efficient police officers were part of the government.

Efforts to shift the DGP's office from its present location were thwarted and new buildings had come up on the same campus.

The Chief Minister said he always favoured fulfilment of the demands made by police personnel. “I will fulfil your demands in future too.”

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Chief Secretary S. Malathi, Home Secretary K. Gnanadesikan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) K. Radhakrishnan, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) M.S. Jaffar Sait, among others, were present. Director General of Police Letika Saran and Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) C.K. Gandhirajan spoke. Earlier, Mr. Karunanidhi inaugurated a training centre and Barracks for Women Commandos at the Marutham Complex. A multi-purpose hall at the new building has been allotted to the Special Security of the Special Branch CID wing, police sources said.
