K.J. Yesudas honoured

Noted Carnatic vocalist K.J. Yesudas was honoured at Tamil Isai Sangam on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, P.R. Gokulakrishnan, president of the sangam, said Mr. Yesudas started singing in the music festival of the sangam in 1979. Also, since 1989, he has been performing every year at the Tamil Isai Sangam on December 28. This was the 25 year that Mr. Yesudas was rendering a concert at the sangam, he said. Mr. Gokulakrishnan presented him with a shawl and A.C. Muthiah, secretary of the sangam, presented him a silver plaque.

The music festival at Tamil Isai Sangam was inaugurated on December 21. On the occasion, Mr. Muthiah donated Rs. 1 crore to Tamil Music College run by Tamil Isai Sangam.

A variety of programmes including drama, dance drama, apart from vocal music concerts, will be held as part of the the Tamil Isai Sangam festival this year. The festival will conclude on January 1.
