After a 12-hour journey covering a distance of over 600 km from Tirunelveli, P. Ramkumar, the 24-year old man who is suspected to have murdered S. Swathi, was brought to the Government Royapettah Hospital early on Monday.

He was remanded in judicial custody till July 18 by S. Gopinathan, the 13 Metropolitan Magistrate, who visited Ramkumar at the hospital on Monday morning. Policemen were not allowed inside when the judge recorded the statement.

A seven-member medical team, headed by S. Mayilvahanan, head of the General Medicine department, has been formed at the hospital to oversee the condition of Ramkumar, a senior hospital official said. The team consists of doctors from the ENT, medicine and surgery departments. “The patient has been eating and drinking. He even walked today. The team will assess him every day and decide on how to proceed. He has not yet been shifted to the prison ward,” the official said.
