Job portal for youth living in slums soon

The Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board will soon launch a job portal for youth living in slums, its Managing Director T.K.Ramachandran said here on Saturday.

Speaking at a job fair for the youth, organised by TNSCB, he said Tata Consultancy Services had given the software for the portal to the Board free of cost. Those possessing skills, including driving, carpentry and car mechanics and those who have completed beautician and tailoring courses can register with the Board. Loyola College Vice-Principal Father Xavier Vedam said 47 students living in slums were undergoing courses as part of the college's Outreach Programme.

TNSCB's Chief Community Development Officer R.Bhuvana said in the last 5 years Rs.1.10 crore had been spent on youth development activities by the Board.

A total of 18,780 youths had been provided training in job-oriented trades. Around 750 persons, registered at the fair in which 26 firms participated.
