Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday launched Indian Overseas Bank (IOB)’s mobile ATM (automated teller machine) service.
S.A. Bhat, IOB Chairman and Managing Director, said the service was meant to serve the Bank’s customers in north Chennai where the number of stationary ATM outlets was less. Depending upon the response, the service would be improved. His organisation planned to increase the total number of ATMs in the country from 700 to 1,000 by March.
T. Thenappan, IOB General Manager of Chennai Region-1, said of the 71 ATMs in the city, 20 ATMs were in north Chennai. There would be an armed guard for the mobile ATM outlet, which would be insured too. The mobile service would not be available in the outskirts of the city.

It would be available in Royapuram (near St. Theresa School), Washermenpet (NPL Agasthaya apartment), Parrys’ Corner (Madras High Court), Vyasarpadi (Electricity Board office in Kannadasan Nagar) and Wall Tax Road (Rettapailliar Koil Street), according to an official release.
