HelpAge India launches SOS app for seniors

What can you do if you see a senior citizen who has been abandoned? If you download HelpAge India’s SOS app on your Android smartphone, you can click a button and get connected to the organisation’s helpline in any State in the country.

On Tuesday, on the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, HelpAge India,, launched the app at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

The ‘Save Our Seniors’ app, explained Edwin Baby, joint director (programs), HelpAge India Chennai, has three components: the button that connects to toll-free helplines for elders in distress, information for senior citizens and a discount feature at retail outlets for them.

“Information on health, wills and legacies and rights and entitlements are l available,” said Mr. Babu.

S.N. Seshasai, Additional Commissioner of Police, V. Sivakumar, State head (designate), TN, HelpAge India, S. Sivakumar, head, geriatric medicine of the hospital and Isaac Christian Moses, dean of the hospital participated.
