Held for commiting thefts and burglaries

A suspect who allegedly posed as a journalist and committed chain-snatchings, vehicle thefts and burglaries along with three of his associates was arrested on Saturday.

According to a press release, Commissioner of Police (in-charge) Sanjay Arora formed a special team to investigate complaints of frequent thefts in the K.K. Nagar and Ashok Nagar areas.

The team followed specific clues and apprehended Selvanayagam, Venkatesan, Daniel and Santhosh. Investigation revealed that Selvanayagam posed as a journalist and was in possession of a fake identity card. He would affix ‘Press' or ‘Advocate' stickers on stolen motorcycles and use the vehicles to commit crimes.

A car, five motorcycles, gold jewellery and mobile phones totally worth about Rs. 10 lakh were recovered from the suspects.

They were produced in a city court.

And they were and remanded to judicial custody, the release added.
