The creations of 15 artisans from various States are on display at the jewellery exhibition that opened on Thursday at the Poompuhar showroom of the Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation here.

‘Jewels Expo 2011' has a collection of exquisitely handcrafted jewellery from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

Handmade ear-drops, bangles, rings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, studded with semi-precious stones and pearls are on sale at the 15-day exhibition. The jewellers from Jaipur have concentrated on Minakari artwork and have created colourful bangles and ear-rings. They also have a collection of semi-precious stones. A women self-help group from Mylapore has on display an array of fashion jewellery. A jeweller from Madurai has created temple jewellery using panchaloka. The artisans say the patronage for their jewellery is on the rise as the prices of precious metals such as gold and silver have been increasing steadily.
