Former Minister acquitted

A special court here on Monday acquitted former Agriculture Minister K.P. Krishnan in a “disproportionate assets” case. Seven others cited as co-accused were also acquitted.

The Judge, R. Ramaraj, said the prosecution had not proved the guilt through documentary evidence beyond reasonable doubt.

Mr. Krishnan was a Minister in the AIADMK regime. The charge against him was that he had amassed wealth to the extent of Rs.3.72 crore. The charge sheet was filed in December 2003. Besides Mr. Krishnan, his wife Malliga, brother K.P. Balu, P. Vanavaramban, A.G. Chittibabu, Palaniammal R. Rajamuthu Irulandi and Kathan were arraigned as accused. Kanagavalli, who was also cited as accused, died during trial.
