Fatal fall for 2 boys chasing kites

Two boys died of injuries they sustained while chasing kites in separate incidents in the city on Saturday.

Three motorcyclists were injured when 'maanja' used for kite flying cut their necks.

On Saturday evening, Edwin Arunraj (14) of Nehru Street 3rd Cross in Avvai Nagar, Choolaimedu, had gone to his neighbour's terrace to fly a kite with his friends. When he and his friends spotted a drifting kite, they ran after it. Edwin slipped and fell to death from the second floor.

In another incident, a 17-year-old boy who climbed the roof of the Tondiarpet High Road bus depot to retrieve a kite fell when the roof gave way. Police sources said Gopi of Ammani Amman Thottam in Tondiarpet came running after his kite to the depot. The plastic roof of the bus shelter collapsed when he climbed on to it. The victim succumbed to injuries at the Government General hospital on Saturday. On the same day, Venkatesan (27), a resident of Uthukottai, was thrown off his motorcycle near the Royapuram bridge when a kite thread got entangled around his neck. Another motorcyclist Raji (34) of Kodungaiyur was injured in a similar incident on the Tondiarpet bridge.

Constable injured

A traffic constable returning home on his motorcycle on Sunday was injured after a kite thread injured his neck. S. Sulaiman attached to the Teynampet traffic police was heading to the TNPHC Quarters in Otteri when the accident occurred on Dr. Ambedkar Road in Pattalam.
