An outpatient clinic of Sankara Nethralaya was commissioned at Shenoy Nagar on Saturday.
The hospital's chairman Emeritus S.S.Badrinath said the clinic was built on land donated by T.K. Sourirajan, former Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Chennai.
The clinic, named in memory of his sisters, T.K. Lakshmi Ammal and T.K. Alamelu Ammal, will provide facilities to make appointments for meeting super-specialists at the main hospital and surgery. The building also has residential accommodation for postgraduate students undergoing training at the hospital, he said. The clinic, situated on 1st Main Road, will function between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays and will have an optometrist and ophthalmologist on duty. Hospital authorities said the building was constructed at a cost of Rs.1.45 crore. Dedicating the clinic to the residents of the locality, N.C. Chandra Builder Limited chairman C.V. Ananthasayanam lauded the services of the staff, commending their “courteousness and genuine concern for patients.” The organisation offers “healthcare at least cost to patients,” he said.
