European film festival under way in Chennai

Film buffs are in for an extravaganza as the 12-day European Union Film festival began at Alliance Francaise of Madras, Nungambakkam, on Monday.

‘Coming of age’, the 21{+s}{+t}European Union Film festival, presents an impressive line-up of 24 movies from countries like Switzerland, Hungary, Finland and France. The festival is hosted jointly by the Delegation of the European Union to India and Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation along with Alliance Francaise of Madras, Goethe Institut and British Council.

E. Thangaraj, ICAF’s general secretary said the fest will feature films from countries like Latvia, Malta, Cyprus and Czech Republic, which are rarely screened in international festivals. Film lovers may watch a variety of movies, including documentaries and animation, during evenings till June 18. While the films will be screened at Alliance Francaise till June 11, Goethe Institut and British Council will screen movies from June 13.

At the inauguration, T. Udayachandran, secretary, Tamil Development and Information Department, appreciated such festivals that open windows to the cultures of other countries.
