A little over nine weeks after the death of 26-year-old seaman Tharchiyus Poobalrayar Sathyan, a Lok Adalat here has awarded Rs.21 lakh as compensation to his mother.

Sathyan died during the course of employment and while on board a ship when it was in outer anchorage at Chennai Harbour in March this year.

Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Elipe Dharma Rao on Wednesday handed over a cheque for Rs.21 lakh.
