A. R. Lakshmanan, former Supreme Court Judge and former Chairman, Law Commission of India, on Wednesday called for a holistic reform to cut down delays in criminal justice system.
Delivering the S. Parthasarathy Memorial Endowment Lecture at the Department of Criminology, University of Madras, Mr. Justice Lakshmanan said the reform entailed that police, prosecution, Prison Department and courts introspected and reviewed their own processes before seeking changes from outside to rectify the problems in the system.
Those responsible for nourishing the system — the executive and the legislature — needed to fulfil their part of the obligation. “Not only justice delayed is justice denied but justice delayed is truly injustice.”
