The Central Industrial Security Force has taken over the security of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district.
A contingent of 25 armed personnel took up position at the memorial on Tuesday.
According to State intelligence sources, the move follows a threat perceived by a Central agency that sympathisers or activists of the LTTE may target the memorial during VVIP visits.
