The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Wednesday sealed a building under construction in Nungambakkam as it was being built in deviation of the plan approval and violated rules, according to a press release.

The owner of the building, on door No.5, new No. 9, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, block No.12, Nungambakkam, had obtained planning permission in October 2008, from the Chennai Corporation to construct stilt floor for parking/lumber room plus first floor partly for office and partly residential and second floor with three dwelling units for residential purpose.

However, in contravention of the approved plan, the owner is constructing the building comprising stilt floor plus two floors and a third floor for commercial purpose, the release said.

In response to the notice issued, the owner submitted planning permission application in CMDA for revised approval. After scrunity, the CMDA refused permission in March this year as the ongoing construction is in deviation to the plan approved by the civic body.

It violates rules related to setbacks, parking and built an unauthorised additional floor, the release said.

As part of its efforts to check unauthorised constructions in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, officials of the CMDA locked and sealed the building.
