Bid to remove fencing foiled

An attempt to remove a portion of the fencing covering the poromboke land adjacent to and in between patta land at Kaverirajapuram allegedly appropriated by Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court P.D. Dinakaran was foiled by the Tiruvallur district administration on Saturday.

The bid to remove the fencing took place in the context of reports that Tiruvallur District Collector V. Palanikumar had sent to Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan a report on the landholdings of Justice Dinakaran.

Tiruttani tahsildar R. Vijayaraghavulu told

The Hindu that he, along with the Revenue Divisional Officer in charge, Tiruttani, B. Balasubramaniam, Village Administrative Officer R. Govindasamy, and other officials rushed to the spot on information of the attempt to remove the fencing. The officials were accompanied by the police. But they were stopped by the manager of the land, Rajkumar.

Mr. Vijayaraghavulu said as soon as they reached the spot, Mr. Rajkumar handed over to him a mobile phone saying that Mr. Justice Dinakaran was on the line. Mr. Vijayaraghavulu alleged that the person at the other end threatened him with dire consequences, that officials could not enter the land without his knowledge and that he would take criminal action against them for trespass. The tahsildar said he had filed a complaint with the Collector.

In the meantime, the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, affiliated to the CPI(M), submitted a memorandum to the Collector seeking action against those who tried to remove the barbed wire fencing. The district administration is also reported to have sent a report to the Tamil Nadu government.
