The 60th birthday of Mayakannan, a resident of Velachery, turned out to be memorable as his daughter surprised him by holding a party at a unique place and also invited a few friends whom he had not met for years.
For the small beach island of TTDC's Raindrop Boathouse in Mudaliarkuppam, which plays hosts to several leisure, entertainment and business meetings, this was only the second such event to be organised there.
The TTDC staff made the party a smooth affair in spite of their having to transport around 60 persons to the island and arranging snacks on time.

The decision to choose the island for the birthday celebrations was taken by Mr. Mayakannan's daughter Nappinai and her husband Anand, both software engineers, after considering various beach resorts on East Coast Road.
“We were awe struck by the venue as it was next to the beach. It was unique and everyone enjoyed it. We kept the venue and the celebrations as a closely guarded secret till 8 a.m. on that day. My father was emotional on seeing all the close relatives converge for the special occasion,” Ms.Nappinai said.

She had also invited five of her father's close friends, who were there during his marriage.
The list included an IAS officer, filmmaker, jeweller, insurance official and Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan's relative.
“Everyone enjoyed the hospitality of the TTDC staff. The boat rides were fantastic. It was an eventful day not only for my parents, but for all of us,” she said.
TTDC Raindrop Boathouse Manager, C. Krishnamurthy said, “This place has turned out to be a preferred destination for tourists. By hosting the birthday party, we have taken it to the next level.”
