Beach Patrol team helps avert suicide

July 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - CHENNAI:

The beach patrol team of constables Raghavendran and Prabhakaran saved the life of a 39-year-old woman, while she was attempting suicide, at the Marina Beach on Tuesday.

A senior official of the city police said the police officials were on their usual rounds on the All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) when they spotted a woman entering the waters. On seeing that she was wading in too deep, the patrolmen asked the woman to come out of the water immediately.

However, on realising that she was not paying them any heed and kept wading in further, the two policemen jumped in and rescued her.

On investigation, it was found the woman, a resident of Annanur near Avadi, was attempting suicide over a family dispute. She was counselled by the police officials and sent back home, a police source said.

Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline can be reached at 044-24640050, and the state’s helpline is 104.
