B.Tech student gets TCS award

As a part of its accreditation interface programme, IT service provider Tata Consultancy Services on Monday conferred best student award to a B.Tech student of a private engineering college for proficiency in academics.

R. Lalitha, an IT student from Easwari Engineering College (a unit of SRM group), received the award at a function here for proficiency in academics and all round performance in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The award carries a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.

TCS, Head Accreditation Process Dr. A.K. Pattabiraman said out of more than 400 colleges in the city, his company has accredited only about 40 colleges.

He said, the criteria for the award are based on student’s academic performance in seven semesters and extra-curricular activities.

TCS Vice President V. Ramanathan said his company was encouraging its staff who wants to pursue higher studies and it was also providing financial assistance in this regard.

SRM Chancellor T.R. Pachamuthu urged the students to pursue research studies instead of discontinuing it after graduation for jobs.
